KUALA LUMPUR: January 26, 2025

Beaten for pace in his local debut two months ago, Iron Head was detemined to prove his worth in the Class 3 – 1400m handicap at Sungai Besi today and came out with flying colours against some well-credentialled opponents.

On a rain affected track rated ‘soft’, the Iffraj gelding managed to show his rivals a clean pair of heels to register a runaway win.

Iron Head took command after the start and was travelling so keenly that he was five lengths clear of the field at the halfway mark.

Iron Head continued to keep up a bright gallop in the straight and won by 3-1/2 lengths in a race which was expected to be competitive given the calibre of the field.

“My instructions were to sit off the leaders, let him relex and finish the race,” said jockey Winston Cheah.

“But when I jumped out there was no pace, no one wants to go the front so I just dictated the pace.

“He (Iron Head) is a very good horse and gave me a very good feel.”

“I am at a loss for words,” exclaimed trainer Ricky Choi.

“He (Iron Head) did not like the soft track in Macau but here he is.

“I did not expect him to lead at all. He won all his three races in Macau coming from midfield.

”He will improve from here.”

Iron Head had a win and a second in five starts in Australia before he was imported into Macau.

He was just hitting his peak in Macau before racing ceases at Taipa, managing three wins and three placings in his final six runs there.
