Four year old Crown Star trained by Simon Dunderdale and ridden by Jockey Lou Ho, held on narrowly by a neck to win the 1200M – Maiden Stakes on Saturday, 17 February and eventually made its owner Ms B L Ong richer by RM10,000 through the Rookie Bonus Scheme introduced by the Selangor Turf Club early this year.

Under the scheme, any  2, 3 or 4 year old horse trained at the Selangor Turf Club can qualify for the Rookie Bonus if they win a race at Selangor Turf Club. The 2 year old and 3 year old can earn two bonuses of RM10,000 each meanwhile the 4 year old can earn one bonus of RM10,000.

Ms B L Ong was the first owner to win the Rookie Bonus of RM10,000 as the win was the first for Crown Star. The scheme was introduced in an effort to encourage owners and trainers to invest in young horses.

The Chairman of the Selangor Turf Club, Tan Sri Richard Cham presented the bonus to Simon, who represented the Owner.
