The Selangor Turf Club has granted a day jockey licence to Brazilian Andre Luiz da Silva and Carlos Henrique to ride during its race meeting on Saturday, 13th July 2024 for trainers HY Cheng and Simon Dunderdale respectively.

Both riders will be riding at Selangor Turf Club for the first time. Andre will be riding in 5 races meanwhile C Henrique has been booked for 4 rides. Both jockeys will also be riding in the New Zealand Bloodstock  3-Year-Old Trophy race with C Henrique mounting Simon Dunderdale trained Antipodean, in his quest to stretch its winning record to 7 wins in 7 starts. Andre will ride Graphjet Express from the yard of trainer HY Cheng.

Andre Luiz da Silva

AL Da Silva

Andre Luiz started as Apprentice Jockey from Sao Paulo Racing School in 2008 and became professional in 2010. He has clinched the Jockey Championship title in Brazil three times during the 2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2020-2021 racing seasons.  He also secured the Championship of Best Strike Rate in 2021.

In 2022, he travelled to Mauritius to ride for Mauritius Turf Club and People’s Turf Club and subsequently became the Champion Jockey at People’s Turf Club and ranked second placing at Mauritius Turf Club in the same year. Among his win was the Gold Cup in 2022. In 2023, he travelled to Macau to ride at the Macau Jockey Club from May to November.

The 33 year old jockey has rode 4,800 horses with 830 winners. Among this winners are 12 Group 1, 16 Group 2, 33 Group 3 and 34 Listed/Cup races in 4 different countries; Brazil, Mauritius, Macau and Peru.

Carlos Henrique

C Henrique

31-year-old Carlos Henrique developed interest in horses and racing at a young age after he regularly followed his veterinarian father at his morning work routine at Gavearacecourse. He enrolled into the Apprentice School at Rio de Janeiro in 2008 and received his licence in November 2009.

The four-time Group 1 winner moved to India in 2020 to ride in four winter seasons and won two Group 1 wins at his first overseas stint, namely the 2011 Deccan Juvenile Million aboard Ashok Chakra and the 2012 Kunigal Stud Million withJersey Girl. 

He left India to ride in Germany followed by a stint in Bahrain, before his permanent move to Qatar in 2019 where he claimed two Group 1 wins with Sealine in the 2021 Qatar Silver Trophy and Abida in the HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy. 

In 14 years of riding with scale weight of 50kg, Henrique has chalked up over 320 wins.
