STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

RACE 2 (R580) CLASS 5(A) – 1200M
At the conclusion of an Inquiry, App A Nazir, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer CC Ooi, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(9)(b)(iii) for incompetent riding in that whilst riding LUCKY SIXTYSIX, he failed to give his mount sufficient rein on jumping, resulting in it being very slowly away. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, App A Nazir’s riding record and points of mitigation. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months with effect from Sunday, 15th May 2022 and to expire on Thursday, 14th July 2022, both days inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (4.10pm).
HEARIING OF APPEAL FROM JOCKEY CHENG HAN KOK (HK CHENG) AGAINST THE PENALTY OF FOUR MONTHS’ SUSPENSION AND FINE OF RM10,000/- IMPOSED BY THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS FOR A CONTRAVENTION OF MRA RULE 44(10) FOR THE RUNNING AND HANDLING OF “GOLDEN CRAFTSMAN” IN RACE 1 (R136) ON SATURDAY, 29TH JANUARY 2022, 1ST DAY, PENANG TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2022
The Penang Turf Club Racing Stewards on 13th May 2022 heard the above Appeal. Jockey HK Cheng was assisted by Ms Mok Cheng Yoon, a certified Court Interpreter.
After considering the submissions from Jockey HK Cheng, Trainer HY Cheng and the Chief Stipendiary Steward, and reviewing the video replay, the Racing Stewards dismissed the Appeal. The penalty of four months’ suspension was enhanced to six months, to take effect from Monday, 16th May 2022 and to expire on Tuesday, 15th November 2022, both days inclusive. The fine of RM10,000/- remains in effect. The appeal deposit was forfeited.
