Horse Welfare, Investments and Growth in Services

The wellbeing of horses are extremely important. The Club is holding discussions with internationally known veterinary surgeons in order to ensure that the finest veterinary, medical, technical, and surgical competencies are available at SLTC. The Club’s surgical facilities have also been greatly improved with the veterinary staff-to-horse ratio increasing to a healthy 1:80.

With the horse population nearing capacity, the Club will recruit the service of one of Asia’s leading farriers. We believe his extensive experience will contribute greatly towards ensuring that our horses are healthy and sound.

“Our investment in increasing the prize money and improvement in training facilities reflect our dedication to the well-being and performance of both horses and trainers,” said CEO of Selangor Turf Club, Dato’ Michael Fong. He further stressed that the Club is committed in providing an environment that fosters success and excellence in every aspect of horse racing.

SLTC is currently in discussion with various organisations to rehome retired horses and finding new chapters through dedicated retirement facilities, which offer sanctuary or avenues for retraining and adoption, to embark on varied second careers, such as competitors in equestrian sports.

Exciting times ahead

“These are exciting times for SLTC. With the REF and other initiatives, including the on-going efforts to improve our racing products and rise in wagering income, SLTC hopes to increase the total prize money by 5% annually in coming years”.

“The Club is grateful for the support and enthusiasm from owners, trainers, government and stakeholders”, said Tan Sri Richard Cham.

The Committee and Management of the Club are striving to elevate the reputation of SLTC as a premier racing centre and to achieve a higher level of excellence in the sport.
