Near the 950M, tended to baulk and then restrained to avoid the heels of runner. Raced erratically in the straight. Rider explained that he had intended to lead on the gelding, however, after obtaining the lead, it had commenced to baulk and shy near the 1000M from the running rail. Further, it had backed off and had shortened its stride. He had then been crossed and momentarily steadied. He was at a loss to explain why the gelding had acted in his manner.
