RACE 2 (R775) CLASS 5b – 1275M (II)

1	SORBETA (M Ewe)	Inclined to lay inwards from the 300M.
2	MGR ROCKET (R Rueven)	Raced wide in the middle stages. Shifted inwards from the 300M, causing runner to shift in and continued to shift inwards until near the 200M. Rider explained that the gelding was inclined to shift when looking for the running rail, however, he was reprimanded for failing to straighten his mount more quickly. Vet inspection: No significant finding.
4	ALWAYS AFRAID (App A Suriya)	Vet inspection: No significant finding.
6	TILSWORTH JACOBI (J Low)	Shortly after the start, crowded and had to be restrained, then commenced to lay inwards. *(See Report)
7	AMAZING CHOICE (S Saddam)	Carried inwards near the 1150M and lost ground. *(See Report)
8	SO BEAUTIFUL (S Ruzaini)	Had to be restrained near the 1100M. *(See Report).
9	MACHUNG STAR (App I Fikri)	Threw its head when being restrained to avoid the heels of a horse which checked near the 1100M. Shied away when crowded near the 350M and steadied when crowded near the 200M. *(See Report)
10	SNAGGLE PUSS (V Espindola)	Tightened badly near the 1100M when carried inwards. Had to be restrained to avoid the heels of a horse which shifted near the 225M. *(See Report)
11	HYDRANT (D Prastiyou)	Took evasive action and was taken outwards to avoid interference at the 1100M.

On inquiry, Jockey SU Lim (GOLD SKY EXPRESS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) for shifting in and causing considerable interference to numerous runners shortly after the start.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey SU Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of four (4) Malaysian race days with effect from 23 July 2023 and to expire on 5 August 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 3 (R776) CLASS 5a – 1275M (II)

7	MARTIN VJ (App A Suriya)	Laid inwards shortly after the start, crowding runner. Inclined to race reluctantly over the final 50M and veered inwards quickly at the winning post. Vet inspection: No significant finding.
8	AUTUMN BLITZ (SU Lim)	Jumped awkwardly, thereby losing ground. Had to be steadied off heels near the 800M. When questioned regarding this, rider stated that he had not wished to lead but had been sitting approximately one (1) length behind the horse on his outside when crossed. He was advised that he made a positive effort to secure his position within the race.
9	NATE’S HONOUR (E Ferreira)	Shifted in marginally near the 800M causing runner to steady. Rider advised to exercise greater caution.
10	JAKAMA PEGASUS (D Prastiyou)	Veered outwards when brushed at the start. Jumped the crossing at the 1050M.

RACE 4 (R777) CLASS 4a – 1275M (II)

2	SKYLIGHT (MM Firdaus)	Bumped shortly after the start. Raced fiercely. Inclined to shift inwards over the final 150M, having to steady near the 75M. *(See Report)
4	ELITE GENERAL (App I Fikri)	Laid inwards passing the 1000M.
5	NAJWAN (O Chavez)	Raced wide throughout.
6	MYSTERIOUS CAPTAIN (KP Lim)	Shifted in, crowding runner near the 850M.

8	BIG FRANCK (App T Ammar)	Saddle slipped backwards at about the 800M.
9	SHANGHAI CAPTAIN (HS Gill)	Raced wide throughout and was inclined to slip at the turn into the straight.
10	BLOOD ROYAL (M Ewe)	Hung inwards in the straight and had to be restrained when hanging in onto heel at about the 250M.

The Stewards inquired into Jockey MM Firdaus’ riding of SKYLIGHT in this race. Evidence was taken from Jockey MM Firdaus and Trainer S Cook, the rider and trainer of SKYLIGHT respectively.

After considering the evidence and also reviewing the performance of SKYLIGHT, the Stewards found Jockey MM Firdaus guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that although he rightfully restrained shortly after the start when crossed by MYSTERIOUS CAPTAIN when that horse shifted out, he had then failed to improve his position inside that gelding and had restrained SKYLIGHT for a considerable distance between the 1075M and the 800M.

The Stewards took into consideration Jockey MM Firdaus’ good riding record, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month, to be deferred, with effect from 31 July 2023 and to expire on 30 August 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

1	SPEEDY DEMON (App K Pavinthran)	Laid inwards passing the 200M and had to be straightened. The Stewards opened an inquiry into the Apprentice’s riding of the gelding and adjourned it to a date to be fixed.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 2 (R725) CLASS 5b – 1200M (E lc), SATURDAY, 8 JULY 2023, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2023

The Stewards, on Friday, 21 July 2023, concluded the adjourned inquiry into Jockey MM Firdaus’ riding of D’GREAT STRIKE in the above race. Further evidence was taken from the gelding’s Trainer, EP Tan and Jockey MM Firdaus.

Several of Jockey MM Firdaus’ witnesses were questioned, namely; Jockey M Ewe who had ridden D’GREAT STRIKE on 2 occasions, App A Nazir who had ridden the gelding at its previous start to the race in question and App S Shazmin who had ridden the gelding on 3 occasions.

It was further established that at its seventh (7^th) start in 2023 (prior to the race in question), the Stewards had made notations on 6 occasions related to D’GREAT STRIKE “racing erratically”, “laying in considerably” and “hanging inwards”.

Given the evidence tendered, and after review of numerous patrol films, the Stewards took no further action related to Jockey MM Firdaus’ riding of D’GREAT STRIKE.

However, in light of the reports and statements made by the 4 riders, the Stewards deemed that D’GREAT STRIKE must trial on 2 occasions to the satisfaction of the Stewards from an outside stall and when ridden by a senior rider. Further that if D’GREAT STRIKE performed satisfactorily in these trials, it may only be ridden in a race by a senior rider and should it present an issue whereby it races uncompetitively or intractably, consideration will be given to recommending that the gelding’s entries be rejected.
