Easy win for General Command on Malaysian debut
Kuala Lumpur: Feb 23, 2025

Placed just once since his last win 18 months ago, former Singapore galloper General Command made a winning debut in Malaysia when he easily took out one of the Supreme A race over 1200m at Sungai Besi today.
Winner of five races at Kranji including two in Class 2, the Shalaa gelding was brilliantly away under Jockey Low Kang Cheng and held a clear lead early.
Awesome Storm joined him at the 800m and shortly after shot to the front as he always does. Low eased his mount back to track the leader till the home straight.
General Command ranged alongside Awesome Storm at the top of the straight and began to pull away from the latter at the 200m.
Shirvo issued a strong challenge in the final 100m but General Command held him at bay to win by half a length. Awesome Storm finished third.
“This horse General Command came to me in good condition from (trainer) Richard Lim. I didn’t have to do much with him as he has shown in Singapore he had a certain level of ability,” said trainer Joseph Leck.
“The short course today suited him.
“Moving forward he should be nice horse for racing in Malaysia. I want to thank the Singapore owners for their faith in me.”
“My instructions were to take advantage of the barrier draw (2) and light weight (52kg) and go forward. But if someone want to take the lead, I was to take a sit,” said Low.
“When Awesome Storm decided took the lead, I was happy to trail him.
“I slowly eased him out from the rails at the 600m and he ran on very well to win.”
General Command raced at the top level in Australia when known as Huunam. He was a 2YO winner at Caulfield and was also placed thrice in 10 starts including a third in the listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes at Caulfield.
In Singapore, he contested the Group 1 Lion City Cup and Group 3 Merlion Trophy in 2023 without success. And now he has found his right form again to defeat some top names today.
