A race review was called into this incident, which was followed by an objection being lodged by Jockey WW Cheah, the rider of the fourth placed horse (OUR SECRET WEAPON) against the winner, FROM THE NAVY (App Clyde Leck) on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages.
After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board overruled the objection as it could not be satisfied that but for the above incident, OUR SECRET WEAPON would not have finished ahead of FROM THE NAVY.
At the conclusion of an inquiry, App Clyde Leck, the rider of FROM THE NAVY, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, C Leck, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to OUR SECRET WEAPON in the concluding stages.
In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App Clyde Leck’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one Malaysian race day with effect from 13 January 2025 and to expire on 18 January 2025, both dates inclusive. He was also fined RM1,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal.
