The Selangor Turf Club delegation set a new record purchase at the New Zealand Bloodstock 2024 Ready To Run Sale held at Karaka, Auckland on 21st and 22nd  November 2024.

The event became more memorable with the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, Right Honorable Winston Peters after the Sales who personally extended his appreciation to the Malaysian team for the incredible sale record.

The Chairman of Selangor Turf Club, Tan Sri Datuk Richard Cham Hak Lim led a delegation of new and existing owners, trainers and management staff of the Club to the Sales. The Selangor Turf Club based buyers were able to bid for the horses of their choice, first hand directly from the seller.

The group amassed a total of 41 horses costing close to NZD$2.2 million. Owner Captain Tan Tiang Huat who secured 4 lots at the Sales sealed his bid for Lot 127, an All Too Hard Bay Clot out of Princess Katie for NZD$320,000, being the highest purchased lot among the Malaysia team.

Captain Tan and the Malaysian team comprising Tan Sri Datuk Richard Cham, Dato’ Adrian Ng and Dato’ Michael Fong also has successfully bid NZD$225,000 for the one-year slot in the NZD$4.5 million NZB Kiwi race and the race is scheduled to be held in March 2025. The bid was significant in giving back to the Charity as Rodney Animal Rescue received NZD$50,000 boost for the sale of the NZB Kiwi race slot.

Among the participants in the delegation were trainers Simon Dunderdale, Wayne Lim, HY Cheng, K Ananthen, Frank Maynard, Nick Selvam, J Leck, Jason Ong, David Kok, Richard Lim and Aloysious representing Sivan.

In an effort to increase the horse population at the Selangor Turf Club, the Club has also established many initiatives and incentives for New Zealand breds. Among them are hosting of special maiden, special novice, graduates champion and open championship races for New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run graduates.

“I am overwhelmed by the support shown by the horse owners and trainers who attended and made purchases at the Sales. On top of that, we are proud that a portion of the proceeds will support Rodney Animal Rescue, reinforcing our commitment to corporate social responsibility”.

“This marks another milestone in our journey, blending top-tier international racing with meaningful charitable contributions. A big thank you to all of them” said Tan Sri Richard Cham who was very pleased with the fruitful trip to New Zealand.
