Kuala Lumpur, 16 September

POPEYETHESAILORMAN bounced back to winning ways on Sunday at the Selangor Turf Club when winning Race 7 in an impressive manner. Sure, the margin of the victory doesn’t catch the eye but from where he had to come from and in the manner in which he quickened up was certainly impressive and looks like a horse to follow in Malaysia.

POPEYETHESAILORMAN

Trained by N SELVAN and ridden to victory by CK KHAW, he is now a three time winner from just the four starts in Malaysia. His only taste of defeat was in his previous start in the Selangor Turf Club 4 Year Old Sprint where he finished unplaced in a strong field of which the winner finished as the runner up in the Selangor Gold Cup just a week ago. The pace was genuine from the start on Track 2 and he easily had 6 lengths to make up turning for home and it almost seemed like he had been left with too much to do. CK Khaw then switched him to the outside of runners and when he finally put his big stride together, he came home with a powerful run to win going away.

THUNDERGOD

THUNDERGOD won a tightly contested affair in Race 4 when beating D’Great Magic and Silent Prince in a Class 5A event over 1700m. He was a comfortable winner in his penultimate start and followed up with a disappointing effort in his last run which certainly was not his best performance. Trained by S HAMILTON and ridden by AK LIM, Thundergod showed plenty of determination to fight off the challenge of Silent Prince for the majority of the home straight before a late flying D’Great Magic arrived on the scene in the final 100m.

BINTANG SIXTY ONE took out Race 3 on the program over 1300m. He jumped well and went straight to the front alongside the biggest danger in the market, Dancing Tycoon, and despite hanging towards the inside in the straight, he managed to go start to finish in front under T AMMAR for the C LECK stable at short odds. Racing takes place this weekend on both Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd of September of what looks to be a great weekend of racing ahead.
