Super Happy on a winning streak
KUALA LUMPUR: May 18, 2024
SUPER HAPPY ran his rivals off their feet to make it four consecutive wins in the Supreme B set-weight event over 1150m on the No. 2 track at Sungai Besi here today.
And according to his connections, there is no telling just how good he is.
The Australian gelding has been sparingly raced since he landed unraced in January 2021. It took the son of Press Statement more than a year before making his debut in May of 2022 in which he finished second.
SUPER HAPPY went on to chalk up three wins and three seconds in his next six runs.
SUPER HAPPY was unplaced in his seasonal debut last year — the only time he has finished out of the money in his 13 starts thus far.
After a second-place finish (to PASIR PINJI in Class 4), he was spelled for seven months before embarking on his current winning streak.
SUPER HAPPY was out in a flash to a clear lead but jockey Mohd Rizuan Shafiq was happy when MAGIC CAPTAIN was decided to take up the running and his eased his mount to settle behind the pacemaker.
Ridden just hands and heels by Shafiq, SUPER HAPPY was able to race past the leader with ease at the 250m.
And with just a couple of cracks of the whip, the five-year-old drew away to win as he liked by two and three-quarter lengths, bringing his record to seven wins and five seconds in 13 starts. He paid RM8 for a win.
“He (SUPER HAPPY) is a very, very good horse who knows how to conserve his energy. When asked by his jockey (for an effort) he just let go,” said trainer Tiang Kim Choi who paid NZ$50,000 for the gelding at the New Zealand Ready To Run Sale.
“Until now, I still don’t know just good he (SUPER HAPPY) is,” said Shafiq who has ridden him in his last four starts. “He keeps improving with each run.”
