RACE 1 (R0122) CLASS 5(A) – 1600m (lc) LAP CHUN HANDICAP

TRIPLE ONE STAR (S Hafis) and BLUE EYED BOY (J Chuah) were slow into stride.

CHER (J De Souza) was obliged to race wide on the turn.

At approximately the 300M-mark, EKRAAR PHOENIX (AM Aizat) steadied outward over the heels of CHER.

Post-race veterinary examinations of MIEJ (AK Lim) and CHER revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 2 (R0123) CLASS 5 (B) – 1600m (lc) GONG XI FATT CHAI HANDICAP

Acting on veterinary advice that SHENG PROISIR had sustained bruised both fore cannon, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 12.59pm. The gelding will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

SOON YOU THINK (App P Haris) jumped awkwardly and stumbled on jumping.

Shortly after the start, SOON YOU THINK stumbled, as a result of JJ STAR (App S Shazmin) shifting in. At a subsequent inquiry, App S Shazmin, the rider of JJ STAR in the presence of his master Trainer EP Tan pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA 44(9)(a)(ii), in that he shifted in when insufficiently clear of SOON YOU THINK, which clipped its heels and stumbled.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration App S Shazmin’s riding record and mitigating factors. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) race days, effective from Monday, 5^th February 2024 and to expire on Monday, 12^th February 2024, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (1.40pm).

THE JEWELLER (App SN Shiva) shifted in from the whip in the straight.

KALA GHODA (L De Souza) raced with its tongue out over the concluding stages.

Jockey AK Lim, the rider of GOLDEN LIGHTNING reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of GOLDEN LIGHTNING revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 3 (R0124) COSMO C – 1600m (lc) HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR STAKES

GOLDEN KING (AM Aizat) and WHY NOT (AK Lim) were both examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and were passed fit to start.

RULE THE WORLD (HS Gill) was slow into stride and showed no early pace, despite being urged.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that YOUARETHEBEST (J Chuah) had returned severely broken-winded and as such, the gelding will be suspended from racing for a period of three (3) months and thereafter, will be required to undergo a corrective surgery and pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of WHY NOT revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 4 (R0125) CLASS 4 (A) – 1300m (lc) SPRING FESTIVAL HANDICAP

EXDREAM, a course scratching as it had sustained sole bruised near fore, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

BLAZING KID and LINCOLN MOONLIGHT which were down 15kgs and 24kgs respectively, in body weight since their last run, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and were passed fit to start.

Approaching the 1000M-mark, LINCOLN MOONLIGHT (HS Gill) broke down, fracturing its off hind leg, dislodging Jockey HS Gill. MAJESTIC WAY which was following, was inconvenienced, dislodging App R Nuqman. Both riders were exempted from weighing-in and were sent to hospital for observations.

QIJI DIAMOND (App A Azizi) shifted in away from the whip and was further inconvenienced from BLAZING KID (App N Shahronnizam), which was also shifting in away from the whip in the straight.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that LINCOLN MOONLIGHT had fractured its off hind cannon and as such, the gelding was humanely euthanized. MAJESTIC WAY returned having cast its near fore plate.

RACE 5 (R0126) CLASS 4(B) -1300m (lc) GOOD FORTUNE HANDICAP

STRETCHY FOUR (L De Souza) jumped awkwardly.

VETRI (AM Aizat) was slow into stride.

FAST AND SUPER (S Hafis) over-raced in the early stages.

At approximately the 1200M-mark, AGUERO JR (AK Lim) was inconvenienced momentarily.

VETRI was obliged to race wide on the turn.

THAILAND CAPTAIN (S Ruzaini) and FAST AND SUPER shifted in away from the whip in the straight.

RACE 6 (R0127) CLASS 5(A) –1400m (sc) LONGEVITY HANDICAP

ROSES FOR ME, a course scratching as it had sustained bruised off fore foot, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

As there was no suitable rider available, the Panel of Stewards ordered the withdrawal of EL MACHO at 2.35pm.

Acting on veterinary advice that STARHARMONY (App SN Shiva) which was fractious, kicking in its barrier and had sustained a cut to its off hind leg, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 3.17pm. STARHARMONY will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Shortly after the jump, App N Shahronnizam, the rider of MULTIBLUE SHARK lost the use of his off side stirrup iron and re-gained it shortly thereafter.

YULONG DREAM (AM Aizat) over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of PROVE IT reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of PROVE IT revealed that the horse had returned with a cut to its near hind cannon and as such, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

RACE 7 (R0128) CLASS 5 (A) – 1400m (sc) PROSPERITY HANDICAP

BEIJING STAR and LOOKS GOOD, both are course scratching. BEIJING STAR had sustained nail bind off fore foot, whilst LOOKS GOOD had sustained a bruised near fore fetlock. Each will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of COUNTRY LAW dropped his whip at approximately the 250M-mark. He was fined the sum of RM500/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a).

Post-race veterinary examinations of LANKARAN (KP Lim) revealed no obvious abnormality and VAIN TYCOON (S Ruzaini) returned broken-winded. As such, VAIN TYCOON will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

RACE 8 (R0129) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200m (sc) GOOD WISDOM HANDICAP

Emergency acceptor JULIUS CAESAR was withdrawn due to capacity field.

STORM TO WIN which was up 16kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.

The Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey S Ruzaini to replace Jockey J Chuah as the rider of STORM TO WIN.

As there was no suitable apprentice jockey available, the Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey J Chuah to replace App R Nuqman as the rider of BANGKOK BOY.

As there was no suitable rider available, the Panel of Stewards ordered the withdrawal of YES BOSSY at 3.25pm.

Jockey S Salee was fined the sum of RM500/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as read with MRA Rule 107(10) for failing to make the carded weight on ROCK ME EASY. The Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey L De Souza to replace him.

KRATOS (App P Haris) jumped awkwardly and stumbled thereafter.

ROCK ME EASY (L De Souza) over-raced in the early and middle stages.

STARDICE (AM Aizat) was obliged to race wide on the turn, entering the home straight wide.

In the later stages, BANGKOK BOY (J Chuah) was inconvenienced slightly, as a result of CHINO DINERO (AK Lim) rolling outwards.

A post-race veterinary examination of BARBARIAN (J De Souza) revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that HUNTER PEGASUS (App A Azizi) returned having cast its near fore plate.

The state of track was upgraded to ‘Yielding’ after the running of this race.

RACE 9 (R0130) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200m (sc) GOOD HEALTH HANDICAP

BEIHAI TURBO, a course scratching as it had sustained sole bruised off fore, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

SHE’S FLYING which was down 24kg in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.

Acting on veterinary advice that PROVOCATEUR (AM Aizat) was lame off fore, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 4.52pm. The gelding will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

SHE’S FLYING (App A Azizi) and AUSSIE EAGLE (KP Lim) jumped awkwardly.

SECRET AGENT (App P Haris) drifted out under pressure, finishing the race wide.

SHE’S FLYING and AUSSIE EAGLE finished the race wide.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey KP Lim, the rider of AUSSIE EAGLE pleaded guilty to a charge for incompetent riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(b)(iii) in that having jumped slightly awkwardly, he took hold of his mount and continued to steady, resulting in his mount getting further back than necessary.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey KP Lim’s riding record and mitigating factors. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month, effective from Monday, 5^th February 2024 and to expire on Monday, 4^th March 2024, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (6.10pm).

RAINBOW FISH, a course scratching as it had suffered seedy toe on near fore foot, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

As there was no suitable rider available, the Panel of Stewards ordered the withdrawal of PURPLE RAIN at 3.10pm.

NATUREISSPEAKING (App N Shahronnizam) and ZAZU (L De Souza) brushed on jumping.

Jockey S Salee, the rider of ASIAN JET reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of ASIAN JET revealed no obvious abnormality.

Post-race veterinary examinations of WINTERFELL (S Ruzaini) and NATUREISSPEAKING revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that JAPAN CAPTAIN (App P Haris) and SPEEDY SWALLOW (AM Aizat) returned having cast their near fore plate and near hind plate respectively.

GENERAL REPORT – PNTC

PENANG TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2024, SATURDAY, 27^TH JANUARY 2024 – RACE 1 (R098)

The Stewards concluded an investigation into POWER EXPRESS’s (App SN Shiva) bridle becoming adrift during the race. It was established that the bridle of POWER EXPRESS flipped over when the horse put its head down as the start was effected, resulting in App SN Shiva swinging on the reins throughout the race, placing him at a severe disadvantage. The Stewards examined the bridle and it was not defective, however Trainer K Coetzee was advised to ensure that the gears on his runners are properly-fitted to avoid similar situation in future. No further action was taken.
